A three-judge bench led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna on Wednesday began hearing over 90 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which came into effect on April 8.

Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhavan, AM Singhvi, and CU Singh are appearing for the petitioners, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represents the Union government.

Petitions argue the law violates religious freedoms and fundamental rights under Articles 14, 15, 21, 25, 26, among others of the Constitution.
