Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan has fixed the presidential reference filed by the federal government seeking interpretation of Article 63(A).

A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial will preside over the case.

The bench will hear the presidential reference on daily basis from Monday.

The hearing on the presidential reference was adjourned after the Supreme Court had taken suo moto notice of the national assembly (NA) deputy speaker’s ruling that rejected the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, ensuing dissolution of the lower house.

On the prime minister’s advice, President Arif Alvi sought the apex court’s opinion regarding the aims and objectives of Article 63 (A), its scope, and other related matters.

The reference had been filed following reports of deviation of some Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members.

In the previous hearing, SC Judge Munib Akhtar said that a member’s vote during no-confidence proceedings was considered a “collective right” after joining a political party.
