Suspicious object, likely an IED, defused on Baramulla highway in J-K

Date:

A suspicious object, likely an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), detected on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway, was defused by security forces on Tuesday, officials said.

The object was found on the roadside near Takiya Tapper, Pattan, during routine sanitization of the Srinagar-Baramulla highway earlier in the day. Soon after its detection, senior security officials reached the spot.

Officials said the area was sealed and the traffic on the highway was also halted.

A bomb disposal squad was called who later blasted the suspected object in a controlled explosion, officials said, adding that the nature of the suspicious object is being ascertained.

The traffic on the highway was later restored.
