Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday announced to extend support to the joint opposition parties Presidential Candidate Yashwant Sinha.
The voting to elect the next President of India will be held on July 18.
Sinha filed his nomination papers at Parliament in New Delhi today in the presence of opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and others.
TRS working president and Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao was also present.
The former Union Minister will be pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance candidate Droupadi Murmu, who filed her nomination papers for the Presidential election on June 24.
Sharing his party decision to support the opposition parties Presidential candidate on micro blogging site twitter, Rao said “President of @trspartyonline Sri KCR garu has decided to extend support to the candidature of Sri@YashwantSingha Ji in the election for President of India”.
Along with our members of Parliament, I will be representing the TRS at the nomination today, he said.
Rama Rao along with TRS’ Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageswara Rao and MPs left for Delhi on Sunday to be present at the filing of nomination papers by Sinha.
Though TRS Chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was not part of the opposition meeting in finalising the Presidential candidate, he decided to support Sinha.
The Chief Minister, who has been criticising Narendra Modi headed NDA government for the past few years, did not participated in the meeting conveyed by Trinamool Congress Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Delhi on June 15.
