Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra on Tuesday said two people, having links with ISIS, have been arrested.
They were planning to carry out blasts across the state with explosives that were recovered from them.
“The persons who have been arrested had links with ISIS. Fierce investigation is underway about their activities. They are natives of Shivamogga and Thirthahalli with links to Dakshina Kannada,” he told reporters here.
Janendra said a third suspect is at large and the police are making efforts to hunt him down. “The accused were in possession of explosives. They planned to carry out blasts across Karnataka to advance the cause of IS that was detrimental to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India,” police said.
In a suo motto, the police registered a case against Shariq, Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yasin, all of whom hail from Shivamogga, under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
After producing the accused before the magistrate, they were remanded to seven days police custody.
Shivamogga was in the news earlier this year after Harsha, a Hindu activist, was hacked to death during a hijab row in Karnataka.
