The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned a terrorist drone attack that targeted its Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, causing material damage but no reported injuries.

In a statement on Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack as an “unprovoked act of terrorism” and stressed that targeting diplomatic missions constitutes a serious violation of international norms and laws.

The ministry said such attacks “breach the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the inviolability of diplomatic premises and the protection of diplomatic personnel.” It warned that the incident represents a dangerous escalation and poses a threat to regional security and stability.

The UAE called on the “Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.”

The ministry reiterated the UAE’s firm rejection of attacks aimed at undermining security and stability, emphasising the importance of protecting diplomatic missions, premises, and personnel in accordance with international law.

According to the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service, two of the drones targeted the United Arab Emirates consulate, while the third aimed for Erbil airport, located near a US military base.
