After two days of disruption over the contentious Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR), the parliamentary deadlock appeared to ease as the Centre agreed to hold discussions on electoral reforms, including the SIR process. However, the INDIA Bloc parties continued their protest on the third day of the Winter Session, this time against the new Labour Codes, staging demonstrations outside Parliament.

The session began with a meeting of the INDIA Bloc floor leaders at 10 am, followed by a protest against the Labour Codes at Makkar Dawar Parliament at 10:40 am.

Meanwhile, a meeting of floor leaders from various opposition parties is currently underway in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, aimed at formulating a joint parliamentary strategy.

Notably, the Trinamool Congress skipped the opposition meeting held on Monday, which sought to develop a collective approach for the first day of the Winter Session.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President and Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, on his birth anniversary. He said, “His legacy of service to the nation, his simple life, and his ethical leadership will continue to inspire us.”

Congress MP Manickam Tagore said that the Parliament will function in the mornings, and “we will continue to protest outside against the Labour Codes.”

Meanwhile, Kanyakumari Lok Sabha MP Vijay Kumar (Vijay Vasanth) moved an adjournment motion in the House, seeking an urgent discussion on the government’s failure to implement meaningful labour reforms.

The motion calls for a debate on the urgent national issue of the government’s inability to implement meaningful labour reforms, despite claims of repackaging 29 labour laws into four Labour Codes.
