Amid extreme foggy conditions and cold weather, the government is likely to announce winter vacations for all government and private schools of Kashmir from Tuesday.
Official at the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) said the proposal of winter vacations was lying at the civil secretariat.
“We heard that the winter vacation for Kashmir division will be announced today and most probably the vacations will start from Tuesday,” he said.
A few private schools have already closed from December 7 in view of the prevailing cold weather conditions.
A parent of a student studying in an elementary class said, “No parent will put the health of their children at risk. The freezing cold is unbearable. How can kids bear this cold?”
He said winter vacations should have been announced a week back.
“The government seems to be least bothered about the health of children,” he said.
Meanwhile, DSEK officials said textbooks and other stationary items at various schools were yet to be distributed.
Director of School Education Kashmir, Muhammad Younis Malik said, “Most probably, winter vacations for all schools will start from Tuesday.”
“However, as of now, there is no official order regarding it. The winter vacations will be for both private and government schools,” he said.(Rising Kashmir)
