Urges Pak PM to remind Obama of his 'promise'

Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah has expressed hope that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharrif during his upcoming meet with US President Barack Obama will discuss the Kashmir issue and deliberate upon taking initiatives to bring peace in the South West Asia.

In a statement to KNS, Shabir Ahmad Shah said only "sincerity" is required to bring everlasting peace in the world and make it a "war-free" planet. "There is a dire need of taking such initiative of sincerely resolving all the outstanding disputes of the world."While hailing Nawaz Sharrif for his endeavours towards resolving the Kashmir issue, Shah said: "We're hopeful that Pak PM will remind Mr Obama of his promise to play a vital role in getting the Kashmir dispute resolved when he was about to take chair as a President of the United States."

"The world institutions and powers like UN, US have a vital role to play in resolving the outstanding disputes of the world like Kashmir which had become a nuclear flashpoint and its lingering poses a serious threat to the establishment of peace in the South Asia which ultimately affects all the initiatives aimed at ensuring global peace."Shah thanked the whole leadership of Pakistan – political, social, religious and military – for their role in highlighting the cause of Kashmir at global forums."We're hopeful that Mr Nawaz Sharrif will also raise issue of unabated killings and human rights violations taking place in Kashmir with the US President," he said.

The DFP chairman reminded both leaders that Kashmir is the only oldest issue awaiting resolution in the United Nations. "It's tragic that nations like Croatia, East Timor and South Sudan achieved independence after a very brief struggle but Jammu and Kashmir where more than 5 lakh people have died and oppression by the hands of Indian occupational forces continue, is ignored. This is why the European Union during its Kashmir visit termed the valley as a 'beautiful prison'."Shah held India responsible for all the mess, chaos and confusion in the region saying it's due to India's stubborn attitude and occupation on military might that leads to uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir.
