12 teams to participate in Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024

As many as 12 teams from across the Kashmir valley will participate in the second edition of the Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024, which kicked off with a bang on Thursday at the Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here.

A total of 160 talented women cricketers will fight for the top spot in the eight day league from August 1 to 8; being organized by 31 Sub Area under the aegis of Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps.

The league is being organised in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Ujala Cygnus chain of Hospitals, and Hope Alive NGO, Defence spokesman said.

General Officer Commanding, 31 Sub Area, Maj Gen PBS Lamba was the chief guest, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri was the guest of honour at the inaugural function.

The event aims to promote women’s cricket in the region, fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie, the spokesman said.

The participants were encouraged to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. The coveted trophy was unveiled, marking the beginning of the tournament.

By supporting and encouraging women in sports, the Army aims to promote gender equality, build confidence, and create opportunities for women to excel.

This tournament is a shining example of the Army’s dedication to women’s empowerment and its efforts to bring about positive change in society.
