Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested 04 drug peddlers, smugglers in Ganderbal & Baramulla and recovered contraband, Psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmed assisted by IC PP Babareshi arrested a drug smuggler namely Gh Mohiuddin Sheikh, son of Sakhi Mohammad resident of Chandoosa during naka checking at Salamdedar Babareshi, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During checking, 14 grams of Heroin like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
Similarly, a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Altaf Ahmad, assisted by Incharge PP Delina at a checkpoint established at Juhama Crossing arrested two wanted drug smugglers identified as Showkat Ahmad Lone son of Gh Mohiuddin resident of Zehanpora Boniyar & Nazir Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Maqbool Dar resident of Ladoora, police said.
During search, 215 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.
In Ganderbal, a Special police team headed by SHO Police Station Ganderbal under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Dudkant Serch intercepted a vehicle (Eco-Sports) bearing registration number DL10CF-5260 with 02 persons onboard, police said.
“During search, 02 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate found filled in two water Bottles capacity one litre each & Petril 05 strips, containing 75 Tablets was recovered. The accused driver namely Arshid Shafi Bhat son of Mohd Shafi Bhat resident of Watlar Ganderbal was arrested on the spot, however another person boarding in the vehicle namely Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Bobsipora fled from the spot and efforts are on to nab him. Vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized. It is pertinent to mention here that the accused is a chronic Drug Peddler & Case under NDPS Act was previously registered against him at PS Lar,” police said.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
