Mehbooba speaks to Shah on safety of Kashmiris

Date:

In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure safety of Kashmiri students and traders in the country.

The appeal came two days after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 25 tourists and a local resident. The attack plunged the nation into mourning.

Following the terror attack, reports have emerged of Kashmiri students and traders facing intimidation and abuse in various states. In Dehradun, the Hindu Raksha Dal has allegedly issued an ultimatum, asking Kashmiris to leave the city within ten days.

Concerned over the reports, Mehbooba Mufti spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah, pressing for urgent intervention to ensure the safety and protection of Kashmiris across India.

“Spoke with Home Minister @AmitShah ji to extend my deepest condolences & also express solidarity with bereaved families of the Pahalgam terror attack. We stand with the nation in this hour of mourning,” Mehbooba said in a post on X.

“Also requested him to intervene in the wake of certain elements openly threatening Kashmiri students & traders across various states. Urged him to intervene without delay to ensure their safety & protection wherever such incidents are being reported,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has issued an urgent advisory to Kashmiri students across India, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid engaging in public or political discourse amid the escalating tensions. The JKSA reported receiving at least eight complaints of harassment from Kashmiri students in the last two days.
