In view of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, J&K Police in Baramulla district on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory for tourists visiting Gulmarg, announcing restrictions on the movement of tourist vehicles between Srinagar and Gulmarg after 5 pm to ensure the safe and smooth passage of Yatra convoys.
Police has advised all tourists and visitors intending to travel to Gulmarg to strictly comply with the traffic restrictions notified by Traffic Headquarters and Zonal Police Headquarter Kashmir.
As per the notified traffic advisory, no tourist vehicle shall be permitted to proceed from Gulmarg towards Srinagar after 5 PM. Likewise, no tourist vehicle shall be allowed to travel from Srinagar towards Gulmarg after 5 PM.
“These restrictions shall remain in force throughout the notified Yatra period,” police said.
All tourists have been advised to plan their travel well in advance and complete their onward and return journeys within the prescribed timings.
Police said cooperation from all stakeholders is essential for maintaining orderly traffic flow and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of Yatra convoys.
Police Baramulla reiterates that these measures have been instituted purely in the interest of public safety, traffic regulation and the smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra.
“Any inconvenience caused on account of these necessary restrictions is deeply regretted and is solicited in the larger interest of ensuring the safety and security of all road users,’ police said.
Meanwhile, as part of the security preparedness for the forthcoming Yatra, police in Baramulla Tuesday conducted a comprehensive multi-agency mock drill at Railway Station Hamray in close coordination with Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles battalion, 2nd Battalion SSB, GRP Hamray, RPF Hamray, and Fire & Emergency Services.
Police said the exercise was aimed at assessing the operational preparedness, response capability, inter-agency coordination, and overall security arrangements at the railway station in view of the upcoming pilgrimage. Various emergency scenarios were simulated to evaluate the effectiveness of joint response mechanisms, communication, evacuation procedures, and crisis management.
“The participating agencies demonstrated seamless coordination and swift response during the exercise, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for pilgrims and the general public,” police said.
