NC yet to get permission for July 20 Jantar Mantar protest on statehood: Omar Abdullah

Date:

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the ruling National Conference (NC) is still awaiting permission from authorities to hold its proposed July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, accusing “some people of sabotaging the party’s programme.”

The National Conference has announced a protest in the national capital seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and has invited 52 political parties from across the country to participate.

Speaking to reporters, Omar said the party has not yet received permission for the protest despite applying for it.

“… We are still in the process of getting permission. It didn’t took even 24 hours for the Cockroach (Janata) Party to get permission and we are still waiting for the past five days,” he said.

Omar alleged that attempts were being made to sabotage the NC’s planned programme.

“.. Some people have started sabotaging our programme. They have changed their dates and proposed holding their program on the same day as ours,” he added.

On Thursday NC president Farooq Abdullah wrote a three page letter to the INDIA bloc leaders, non-BJP national parties and J&K leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to support the party’s upcoming protest over Statehood and constitutional rights.
