Srinagar: The first ever night Football tournament ‘Chinar Cup’ held by DPS Srinagar in corroboration with APS Srinagar is in full flow. On the second day two matches were held under the lights and some skillful football was on display.
In the first game, AGS Chandigam inflicted a heavy defeat to AGS Wuzur beating them 6-0. The Chandigam team’s fleet footed strikers were too much for the porous defense of Wuzur who seemed all at sea.
Zakir Hussein was adjudged the Man of the Match for scoring the first two goals. In the second game DPS Budgam inflicted an even heavier drubbing to AGS Hanzik piling thirteen goals while conceding none.
The Chief Guest on the occasion, Director Education GN Itoo appreciated the performances. He complimented the school for taking the lead for sports development in the valley and said “The School has correctly figured out that a healthy mind can only exist in a healthy body. Such activities are the need of the hour.
I congratulate DPS Srinagar for once again standing true to their motto: Service before self. Notably, this is the first tournament in the history of the country where football games are being held for school teams under lights.
