Despite Poll Boycott: PDP Field Proxy Candidates

Date:

MP’s Brother join the fray as independent in Kupwara

KUPWARA: The duplicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been exposed as the party have fielded proxy candidates from Kupwara of urban local bodies going to the polls in the first phase across the Kashmir region.

Top leaders have fielded their close relatives from prestigious seats. Reyaz Ahmad Mir, brother of MP Fayaz Ahmad Mir (Rajya Sabha Member), filed the nomination papers from ward no 11 and 19 other candidates of different parties for 1 to 6 municipality wards and 23 for 7 to 13 wards.

Among other candidates, for 1 to 16 wards, seven are from national parties, 12 are independent. There are also some woman candidates who filed nomination for wards reserved for the fairer gender—2 candidates for ward 1 and 3 for ward-4.

This has happened despite the PDP  announcing a boycott of civic bodies elections in the state over Article 35A of the Constitution.
