Hizb Militant Surrendered Before IG BSF, Handed Over To Pulwama Police

Srinagar: A local militant hailing from South Kashmir district, affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, a militant outfit has surrendered before the Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF). Officials said that the militant has been handed over to Pulwama Police after completing the requisite formalities.

A BSF spokesman told the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a Hizb militant has surrendered before the IG BSF in the morning hours today, adding that the militant was wanted in connection with the encounter which took place in village Drabgam, Pulwama on November 25 in which, two militants- Irfan Ahmed Sheikh and Irfan Ahmed Rather were killed in a gunfight. “He was driving the vehicle which militants used for their purpose,” he said.

They said that the surrendered militant was earlier an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Lashkar-e-Taiba and was arrested in 2010 and remained in Kathua jail for eight months. “After about two months, he was re-arrested for the same case and was lodged in Mattan Kehribal (Anantnag) jail for another 8-10 months,” the spokesman said, adding that he was also taken into custody during the 2016 agitation.

The surrendered militant has his mother, wife, a six-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter in his family, officials said, adding that after completing the requisite formalities, the militant was handed over to Incharge Police Station Pulwama on Dec 7 in this afternoon for their further necessary action, as per laid down procedures. (KNO)
