FIR registered in JNU clash

New Delhi, April 11 (UNI) An FIR has been registered in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence, in which two groups of students clashed over alleged use of meat at hostel mess amid Ram Navami celebrations.

The Delhi Police said it received a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF and AISA early Monday against unknown Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) students about the Kaveri hostel incident. On the basis of complaint, an FIR has been lodged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. The probe is on to collect factual and scientific evidence and identify the culprits, said the police.

The students belonging to ABVP have also intimated the police they will also lodge a formal complaint. On receipt of the same appropriate legal action will be taken, said Delhi Police. Over a dozen students of the JNU were injured during the clash between the right wing ABVP and Left parties.

While the Left party students claimed that ABVP students stopped residents inside JNU from having meat in food, they also threatened the mess securities of the hostel, the ABVP students claimed that there was no issue about non-vegetarian dishes and alleged that Left party supporters had a problem with the celebration of Ram Navmi.
