SRINAGAR, JAN 28 (UNI):- A view of closed historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar as 64-hour-long weekend lockdown begins in Srinagar on Friday.
Srinagar, Apr 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) expressed displeasure for not allowing people to offer prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on the occasions of Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Vida.
The AAC, In a statement, said that on one hand, the government claims that the “normalcy” has returned in the valley, while on the other hand, people are being “prevented from performing their religious duties and obligations”.
“Such acts by the administration not only hurt the religious sentiments of the people but they are also realising that for one reason or another, the closure of the Central Jama Masjid Srinagar is a deliberate attempt to undermine its importance and centrality,” it said.
The AAC also accused that the detention of the head of the organisation, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, was meant for stopping him from carrying out his official duties and peaceful activities besides to isolate him from the people.
On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the AAC had reiterated its demand for the unconditional release of the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and others.
