Afzal Ansari disqualified from LS as a member

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Afzal Ansari was on Monday disqualified from Lok Sabha as a member from April 29, following his conviction by a court in UP.

“Consequent upon his conviction by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge, MP/MLA Court, Ghazipur, Afzal Ansari, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Ghazipur Parliamentary Constituency of UP stands disqualified from the membership of LS from the date of his conviction i.e April 29 in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951,” read the notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Monday.

Last week, Ansari was convicted by a court in Ghazipur in a case related to kidnapping and murder.
