Police in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir cracked down on illegal LPG decanting, seizing 80 gas cylinders and booking a distributor for allegedly transferring gas from domestic to commercial cylinders to earn undue profits, officials said on Tuesday.
Police said acting on reliable information that an LPG distributor, Firdous Ahmad Dar of Hajibal, was illegally transferring LPG from domestic cylinders into commercial cylinders with the intent to deceive consumers and earn undue profits.
The activity was being carried out in violation of established norms, posing serious risks to public safety.
Accordingly, a case under relevant provisions of law was registered at Police Station Kakapora and investigation was taken up.
Police said during the course of investigation, they seized a total of 80 gas cylinders, including 35 domestic and 45 commercial cylinders, in connection with the illegal activity.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full scope of the operation and to take strict legal action against all those involved, police said.
