The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), a specialised unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, said on Friday that it arrested a woman absconder involved in a major narcotics case.
The ANTF Kashmir termed the arrest of accused identified as Tamana Ashraf a resident of Batamaloo, Srinagar a major breakthrough in the operation against the drug peddlers.
Police said she was wanted in 2023 FIR registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at ANTF Jammu and had been evading arrest for the past three years.
They said the accused was involved in the trafficking of over 7 kilograms of charas, which was being transported to Mumbai through courier services. Following the registration of the case, she allegedly moved across different states to avoid arrest.
“ Due to continuous efforts of ANTF J&K, the said lady was tactfully apprehended from her residence at Batamaloo Srinagar on January 1,” Police said, adding the relentless efforts of ANTF J&K and intelligence-led operation led to the successful apprehension, showcasing their commitment to curbing narcotics crimes.
The ANTF in J&K was formed in 2020 to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the union Territory.
