The Indian Army is mourning the loss of brave assault canine ‘Bajaj’, a decorated military dog, who served valiantly in multiple high-risk anti-terror operations in Kashmir over the past three years.

He died on July 15 after a prolonged illness.

The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps paid tributes to ‘Bajaj’ calling him a vital member of their combat team who stood as a symbol of loyalty, strength and courage.

“Chinar Corps expresses heartfelt condolences on the demise of Assault Canine Dog ‘Bajaj’ on 15 July 2025 after a prolonged illness. A vital member of our combat team, Bajaj stood as a symbol of loyalty, strength and courage,” the Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

It said that ‘Bajaj’ was the first assault dog in the Indian Army integrated with the K9 Surveillance Camera System.

“Bajaj participated in numerous high-risk counter terrorism operations in Kashmir Valley, often leading from the front and safeguarding lives of soldiers,” the Army said.

Bajaj, for his bravery was honoured with the prestigious Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card (August 2022), GOC-in-C Commendation Card (January 2022) and the Chinar Medallion (2021).

“A true warrior who served the nation till his last breath. Rest in peace, Braveheart.” the Chinar Corps added.

Official sources said that “Bajaj” led from the front in assault operations, clearing rooms ahead of the main security force teams. He lost his close associate, “Axel,” during an operation in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir in 2022.
