Two persons were killed after a private car plunged into a deep gorge in Pahalgam’s Aru Valley, while eight tourists from Odisha were injured when a tempo traveller overturned on the Gulmarg–Tangmarg road in two separate road accidents in Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

In one of the accidents, a private car skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Aru Valley in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, resulting in the deaths of two occupants, officials said.

They said the accident occurred this morning when a private Swift lost control and fell into a gorge.

The deceased were identified as Imran Hussain Ganie (29), a resident of Pathbough Dialgam, Anantnag, and Yasmeena a resident of Mattan Anantnag.

Officials said the bodies of both victims were recovered.

Meanwhile, eight tourists from Odisha were injured when a tempo traveller carrying them overturned on the Gulmarg–Tangmarg road in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Officials said the vehicle, carrying 11 tourists, was travelling from the tourist resort of Gulmarg to Tangmarg when it met with an accident and overturned.

All the passengers were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in Tangmarg for medical examination and treatment.

Preliminary medical reports indicated that eight tourists sustained minor injuries, while the remaining three escaped unhurt.

Two of the injured tourists were referred to a hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of both the accidents.
