At least 25 people injured following earthquake in Peru

At least 25 people have been injured as a result of an earthquake in Peru, the country’s Ministry of Health said on Monday.

“The Emergency Operations Center reports 25 injured, of whom 12 have been hospitalized and 13 discharged [after receiving medical care],” the ministry said on X.

The 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Peru on Sunday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Peru is located in a highly seismically active zone along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the Nazca Plate subducts beneath the South American Plate, making such events relatively common and often leading to significant infrastructure damage and casualties.
