A 12th class girl student fainted and subsequently missed her examination after school authorities refused to issue an admit card for sitting in board examination due to non-payment of fee in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The father of the girl (name withheld), Abdul Majeed Ganai told Srinagar-based news agency GNS over phone on Friday that his daughter was supposed to appear in 12th class annual examination but authorities at Baramulla Public School refused to give roll number slip unless she cleared her outstanding school fee.

“The outstanding balance was 40,000 rupees and today I along with some respectable elders of Banglo Bagh, where I live, went her school. I had arranged 10, 000 rupees and I told the school authorities that I will also pay remaining amount in three installments,” he said, adding: “however they didn’t hear a word and refused to give the roll number slip.”

He said that his daughter fainted and missed her first paper. “She fell unconscious and we immediately took her for treatment at a nearby clinic. She is in a state of shock as it is for the first time she missed her exam. My daughter is a brilliant student but the school authorities ruined her career and health. She secured 73 percent marks in 10th class and wanted to crack medical entrance examinations,” he said.

Ganai, father of five girls, said that his daughter has been studying at the school since last six to seven years and it was ironical on the part of the school authorities that they barred her from sitting in exam. 

“I faced some serious problems and that is why I couldn’t pay her fee. But, today I somehow managed ten thousand rupees and went before the school authorities,” he said.

Urging Education Minister to intervene in the matter, he said that the concerned department should make some arrangement so that his daughter could appear in examination of the paper she missed today. “Rest I assure the school authorities that I will complete the fee balance,” he said.

Despite various attempts, no official of Baramulla Public School could be reached for comments.(GNS)
