Panch’s Mother Dies Of Heart Attack After Bedlam By Runner-Up Candidate For Sarpanch In Poonch

Poonch: Family of a Panch, who was elected unopposed, accused a runner-up candidate of Sarpanch of Halqa Hundiayan in Poonch of creating bedlam outside his house, leading to the death of his mother due to a heart attack.

Police have taken cognizance and started an investigation into the allegations by the Panch—Gulzar Ahmad and his family, Deputy Superintendent of Police Reyaz Ahmad told GNS.

“As soon getting the information, I along with a team of police personnel reached the spot and got the postmortem done,” he said, adding, “The body was later handed over to family for last rites while police started investigation into the claims made by the family of the deceased woman, ‘Barkat Bi’wife of Sofoya of Mahroate,” he said.

According to Gulzar, his mother, a septuagenarian, cast her vote and was hale and hearty.

“As soon as Mohammad Yousuf (Sarpanch) won, Rashid Ahmad (runner-up candidate) and his supporters created bedlam outside our house as a result of which my mother died of heart attack,” he said.

Gulzar reportedly supported Yousuf for the post of Sarpanch and this enraged Rashid.  Meanwhile, Rashid could not be contacted for comments. (GNS)
