Srinagar: Amid reports of ‘no confidence motion’ for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor and his Deputy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a case against incumbent Deputy Mayor of SMC Sheikh Imran here for allegedly threatening one of the corporators of BJP.
According to the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), sources within BJP said that the party’s district Srinagar office bearers have filed a case at Rajbagh Police Station here against Sheikh Imran for allegedly threatening a BJP corporator from Lal Chowk ward.
“A meeting was being held today at BJP office Srinagar during which the Deputy Mayor SMC has threatened BJP Corporator. Imran has got frustrated after hearing the reports of floor testing for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor SMC posts. He has now threatened one of our corporator in this regard on phone,” sources said.
President of BJP’s district Srinagar wing, Arif Majeed Pampori admitted that they have registered a case against Deputy Mayor, stating that Imran is under detention from past three months, but how is he using the mobile phone.
“Deputy Mayor has contacted our corporator from his own mobile phone. How is he using the mobile phone. We have demanded inquiry in this regard from the concerned officials,” he said, adding that the party leaders have approached the Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Girish Chandra Murmu and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Shahid Choudhary, seeking their intervention on this regard.
Arif said that party is demanding shifting of incumbent Deputy Mayor SMC to Tihar jail at an earliest.
Pertinently, BJP corporators with the support of other individuals are gearing up for the no confidence motion and have putforth the names of their corporators for Mayor and Deputy Mayor post. The no confidence motion is likely to take place till next week. (KNO)
