BJP Senior Leader Ashraf Azad Sends Defamation Notice to Aam Aadmi Party’s MP Sanjay Singh.

Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Advocate, on behalf of his client, Mohd Ashraf Azad, a Senior Leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K, has issued a legal notice for defamation to Mr. Sanjay Singh, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The notice demands a public apology, retraction of defamatory statements, and a compensation of fifty crore rupees.

The legal notice, dated September 22, 2025, alleges that during a press conference held on September 12, 2025, in Delhi, Mr. Sanjay Singh made “false, malicious, and unsubstantiated accusations” by branding Mr. Azad as a “terrorist.”

According to the legal notice, Mr. Ashraf Azad has been an active Senior Leader of the BJP for the last three decades and has consistently worked against terrorism and corruption, establishing himself as a “peace loving nationalistic person.”

The notice states that Mr. Singh’s allegations are “totally baseless, defamatory and devoid of any factual or legal foundation.” It further adds that the “deliberate and reckless” statements have been widely aired across electronic and social media, causing “serious and irreparable harm” to Mr. Azad’s reputation and causing him “mental trauma and emotional distress.”

The defamation notice asserts that Mr. Sanjay Singh is liable for criminal and civil proceedings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000. It requires Mr. Singh to comply with the demands within 72 hours of receiving the notice. Failure to do so will result in the initiation of appropriate legal proceedings at his sole cost, risk, and consequence.(JKNS)
