Accusing the Basavaraj Bommai-led government in Karnataka for “misrule “, the Congress on Tuesday said there is strong “anti-incumbency” against the BJP government in the state.
“BJP is a sinking ship (in Karnataka) which is on a nosedive. Neither PM Narendra Modi nor Bommai government can save it,” Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters at the party headquarters here, after the meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) on the forthcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka.
Taking a dig at the ‘double engine government ‘ of BJP in the state as well as Centre, Surjewala said, “Modi government betrays Karnataka on one hand and Bommai government brazenly ‘loots’ the state on other hand. The so called ‘double engine govt’ is a ‘double betrayal’ for Karnataka.”
In response to a question , the MP, flanked by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and party’s Karnataka unit chief DK Shivakumar said, ” Congress party is completely united (in Karnataka). There is complete chaos. Many leaders left BJP because they have no confidence in Bommai government.”
Endorsing Surjewala, Siddaramaiah said,”The ground reality in Karnataka is that there is a wave in favour of Congress party. There is a strong ‘anti-incumbency’ against the BJP government because of its misrule.”
“The people of the state have decided to oust this government and bring back Congress in power,” Siddaramaiah, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly said.
Elections to 224 member Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 10.
The Opposition Congres is eyeing to return to the power. The BJP is hopeful that it will retain power.
