Internet Obsess Teachers Skip Classes; Students Aghast

BARAMULLA: Career of scores of students is at stake in Government Degree College for Women in Baramulla where staff is either skipping the regular classes or busy in surfing internet in the classes.

Students of the college allege teachers for not taking classes regularly which forced them to face the brunt during examinations. Students also allege that the teachers are busy in surfing social networking in class rooms, hence sans attention towards the scheduled lecture or class.

Scores of students of B.A second year while talking to this correspondent said that since July 2015 the lecturer for the Computer Application and Psychology for B.A second year have completed less than two lessons out of huge syllabus. “The lecturer for computers hardly takes any practical classes. She is all busy in surfing internet during the lecture period, “students said. They said that due to lack of proper classes and attention from the concern department, they are very weak in the said subject.

They further added, “We were forcibly taken to the external examinations for the computers today. The examination was held regarding SQL (Standard Query language) of computers which was not taught by the concerned teacher to the satisfactory.  They said despite their complaint with the Head of department (HOD) for Computer Applications, they were not addressed and no teacher was made answerable.

Another group of students complained of Psychology lecturer who according to them hardly attends classes, which has affected the studies of students. “Our complaints are not listened. We are being suppressed in return. We appeal to the Education minters to look in to the matter, besides provide us dedicated teachers who will not put our career at stake,” they said.

The principal of the college could not be contacted despite attempts.
