Enthusiastic celebrations were held at the BJP headquarters in the national capital on Monday evening, as the party was headed for a massive win in the West Bengal assembly polls.
Party leaders, workers and supporters were seen distributing Jhalmuri, Bengali sweets and were dancing to Dhol beats.
At around 5 pm, the BJP was leading at 197 seats in West Bengal, in accordance with the trends and results for the polls, while Trinamool Congress was at second spot, leading in 90 seats.
Senior party leader Tarun Chugh, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, along with party workers took out a symbolic procession starting from the national BJP office to the Vistar Karyalya and then back to the headquarters.
The party workers celebrated dancing and applying colors on each other, especially the saffron.
A party supporter who said he has his roots in Bengal said that BJP heading for a big win is a change that people of the state were looking forward to.
BJP workers began arriving at the headquarters from different parts of the city and the NCR as the counting trends started coming out in favor of the party in West Bengal, and preparations began for decorations and mega celebrations, with the arrival of senior party leaders.
To form government the number of seats required is 148. The TMC is staring at defeat after three terms of remaining in power.
In Delhi, the Ministers celebrated by eating Rasogulla and Jhalmuri, while Minister Parvesh Verma was seen distributing Jalebis to party workers.
The minister stated that the joy of winning was shared with party workers with Jhalmuri and Jalebi, which is not just a celebration, but the triumph of that ideology whose foundation was laid by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
He added that the change has come to Bengal “after years of misgovernance, fear and politics of appeasement”, and the people have taken a historic decision.
