Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that his party will take a call on contesting the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for four seats.
“There are four seats. We will decide how many seats we will fight and how many seats we will leave for others to fight,” Abdullah told reporters during his visit to the flood-hit Mahore sub-division in Reasi district.
With the announcement of the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu & Kashmir, the strength of the newly formed Legislative Assembly gives a clear advantage to the ruling NC-Congress alliance.
The alliance is widely expected to win three of the four seats, while the BJP is likely to secure the remaining one.
While addressing political developments, Abdullah also took stock of the devastation caused by the recent flash floods, which have wreaked havoc across the Union Territory.
“In some places, entire mountains have collapsed, damaging a large number of houses. In other areas, homes have been washed away along with agricultural land,” he said.
The Chief Minister met flood victims and assured them that the government would provide all possible assistance, including relief and rehabilitation measures.(KINS)
