Congress Demands Holding Of Assembly Elections In JK

Date:

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee today demanded that assembly elections should be held “sooner” in the state for smooth governance of the people.

PCC president G A Mir while presiding over a meeting of senior Congress leaders and activists said that the Governor administration does not suit the politics and governance of people.

“We demand that assembly elections should be held in the state. Sooner the better,” he said while talking to reporters before the meeting, as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent.

Mir said that BJP managed to disrupt and capture booths in Zanskar segment of the Ladakh seat during the recently held parliamentary elections and demanded that re-elections should be conducted in Zanskar.

“Our ground feedbacks and reports suggest that ECI held polls in Zanskar at the behest of BJP. BJP tried to bribe journalists before polls. We demand re-poll in Zanskar and have written to ECI,” he said.

Over the low turnout in south Kashmir elections, Mir said that the biggest reason was withdrawal of security from Congress activists and leaders before the polls.

“We could not mobilise voters. Our activity and leaders were withdrawn the security before elections. It was one of the main reasons for low turnout,” he said.

The PCC president demanded that toll tax at Sangam toll plaza for local residents of south Kashmir should be exempted and for rest of the transports it should be fixed on “genuine lines”. (KNS)
