Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner Shyambir Singh on Monday sought time before the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court to decide whether he was willing to file an affidavit of apology before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court in a criminal contempt case.
Singh, a young IAS officer on deputation to Jammu and Kashmir from Madhya Pradesh appeared before the division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Sanjeev Kumar with his reply in the criminal contempt case involving his alleged attempt to implicate CJM in a false case for passing an order against him.
The contemnor orally submitted before the Court today that whatever he did was not intentional to undermine the dignity of the learned court.
“Pursuant to the opportunity given by this Court vide order dated 05.08.2024, Shyambir, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, has appeared before this Court and has prepared his reply. The same shall be filed during the course of the day before the Registry. The contemnor orally submitted before this Court that whatever he did was not intentional to undermine the dignity of the learned court,” the Court order read.
The Court said that DC asked for some time to think over whether he is willing to file an affidavit of apology and personally appear before the learned court.
The case has been now listed on August 14.
The High court took serious note of contempt against DC Ganderbal on reference by CJM Ganderbal Fayaz Qureshi.
The CJM Qureshi had in an order on July 23 accused DC Singh of launching a personal “attack” on him through “manipulation and fabrication” over an order in which the judge directed the withholding of the officer’s salary due to non-compliance with a judgment issued on October 31.
