Four people were killed and fifteen others injured after two trucks collided on GTK Road in Delhi’s outer north district, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, nineteen injured persons were shifted to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela, where four of them were declared dead by doctors, two were referred to a higher centre in Balaji Action Centre Paschim Vihar for further treatment, and five injured people were sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in Jahangirpuri.
A case has been registered under Section 279/304A at Alipur Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
The police said that they received a PCR call at around 00.44 hours regarding the accident of two vehicles near Siraspur GTK Road.
Responding to the call, the team reached the spot where police found that two trucks had collided on Upper GTK Highway (NH-44) in which one truck was carrying Kanwar yatris to Haridwar for Kanwar.
A senior police official said that in the preliminary investigation, it came to light that one of the trucks which was coming towards Delhi had allegedly crossed the central divider of GTK road and rammed the Kanwar yatris truck in which around 20-23 kanwar yatris were travelling.
The alleged truck driver is still on the run, police said.
