Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party chairman Mehbooba Mufti Monday said she withstood pressure to ban Jamaat –e-Islami during her tenure as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir as she believed the group had the right to propagate its ideology.
Speaking to reporters after a party rally, Mehbooba said the PDP had undertaken a written assurance from BJP regarding safeguarding of Article 370. “ This is why they didn’t touch the special status of Jammu and Kashmir for two years,” she said, reacting to BJP leader and Union Minister Arun Jaitley’s claim that PDP was ideologically aligned to the Jamaat.
Mehbooba said there was growing clamour for a probe into the Pulwama suicide bombing attack.
“From Mamta Banerjee to Arvind Kejriwal more and more voices are demanding a probe into the incident so that the truth of Pulwama comes to fore,” she said. (GNS)
