Srinagar: The woman from Kupwara who delivered on roadside outside Lal Ded hospital was not only refused an entry into the hospital, however, she was also denied the basic treatment by doctors pointing towards medical negligence.

According to Medical Superintendent, Lal Ded Dr Shabir Sidiqui the patient was after proper check up not admitted in the hospital by doctors since they had no idea of her labour pain.

“The Patient was admitted in the hospital where doctors put her through the check up. However, they asked the patient to stay at the rented accommodation in Bemina and turn back next day,” he told The Legitimate.

Sidiqui, however, said that the inquiry into the incident has been launched and the action would follow after its completion. The accused doctor is already suspended and attached to the Government Medical College Srinagar.

He further blamed on the district hospital Kupwara for the “unnecessary” referral.

This was not a case of referral. But the problem is that after 4 pm every hospital from Banihal to Kupwara is referring patients to LD. Most of the times, the referrals are unnecessary due to which it is further putting burden on our staff.” he said. He, was however, quick to add that the baby delivered by woman was premature by three weeks.

Pertinently, a woman from Moori village of Kalaroose in Kupwara district was forced to deliver outside on road in shivering cold after doctors at Lal Ded hospital refused her the entry. After the delivery the new born died prompting strong protests from the victim’s family.

The state government had ordered an inquiry into the case by Principal GMC, Srinagar and two days deadline have been set to furnish the report.
