Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
“A police party of Police Station Kralgund at a checkpoint established at Kralgund near Eidgah, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Mohd Amin Bhat @Umar son of Rayaz Ahmad resident of Kralgund. During the search, 40 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 49/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Kralgund and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
