Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam: Police

 Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday have arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party headed by In-charge Police Post Frisal at a checkpoint established at Chenigam, Frisal intercepted a vehicle (auto) bearing registration number JK18B-2131 driven by Rouf Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat resident of Chenigam, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

During search, 17 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 63/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Yaripora and investigation has been set into motion.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112.  People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said
