‘Power cuts in valley due to increasing load’

Srinagar: Appealing people to use the power judiciously, the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said that the gap between demand and supply has increased in the valley from last one month.

“Though the government is trying hard to give sufficient power supply to the consumers of the valley but unfortunately consumers have become negligent to use power in a proper way. I appeal people to save energy and avoid use of enough gadgets during peak hours to prevent power breakdowns due to overloading,” Nirmal Singh told KNS over phone.

Seeking people’s cooperation in saving energy so that the Power department could maintain smooth supply of electricity in the prevailing cold conditions, the Deputy Chief Minister said that with the down of temperature and increase in consumption of electricity through use of heaters, blowers, overloading is being experienced. “With this overloading, there is burden on the system in the congested areas. People are humbly requested to save energy, use it judiciously wherever required and restrict use of enough gadgets,” he said.

Singh, who is also power minister of the state said, “Compared to summers the power consumption has raised in the valley. The gap between demand and supply compels Power Development Department (PDD) to go for curtailments and unscheduled cuts.” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister claimed that if the people consume power judiciously then the power department can provide the better supply to the people of the valley. “Many people have kept transformers in their houses which create extra load to the main transformers and by the reason it gets damaged. The unscheduled power cuts are because of the increasing load,” the Deputy CM maintained. (KNS)
