Late evening withdrawals imperil safety of polling parties Shah Faesal
Srinagar: President J&K Peoples Movement Dr Shah Faesal today suggested that Election Commission of India should organise the poll days such that voting can begin very early in the morning and close around 4 PM to facilitate safe withdrawal of polling parties.
“Recent incident in Langate could have been avoided had the polling closed early and parties withdrawn before it got dark. People prefer to vote early in the morning and there is very little incremental turn out as the day closes”, Shah Faesal in a statement said.
“The complaints of bogus voting also increase in the late afternoon as voter foot-fall drops from polling stations. In such a situation optimum use of time would be to start polling early in the morning and end earlier than the existing closing time”, he added.
‘The Chief Electoral Officer J&K had made very effective arrangements for the first phase and it is hoped that North Kashmir experience will guide the polling in other Districts of the state”, said Dr. Shah on micro blogging site Twitter.
