The global pandemic Covid-19 continues to spread in the world. Over a million population is affected and the deaths are also surging in many other countries especially in United Kingdom and America.
Initially, it played the havoc in Italy and Iran. While there is no significant progress in controlling the pandemic in the earlier affected countries, its spread at mass level in other parts of the world has terribly left the world leaders frustrated and clueless in taking control of the situation.
Most of the countries especially in west and Middle East are under lockdown. India, the fastest growing economy in South Asia has also enforced the lockdown to stop the spread of Covid-19 on March 23. The World Health Organization (WHO) has appreciated India for taking preemptive measures in wake of this global crisis. If there is any country doing well in such worst times that is China.
Mysteriously, the first affected country with the virus has succeeded in controlling to spread it in other parts of the country. The world with this pandemic followed by compulsory lockdown is facing immense challenges on multiple fronts. This pandemic has immediate fall out and the long term impact on the socioeconomic world order.
As the pandemic continues to spread, the necessary lockdown has triggered the global recession. Many of the countries have economically collapsed and survive on aid or loans from the World Bank.
Despite this global recession, many countries in the world have extended the call for lockdown and suspended all the normal and necessary activities. Given to this prevailing lockdown, the food chain is already been disrupted. There is no more production in the companies. The famers doesn’t cultivate in the fields. The trains are on halt, and the transport is off the roads.
So the question is how long the supply chain will sustain without any disruption. In case the economic activities are not started in near future, it is anticipated that millions of people will die of starvation globally. The existing food stock is quickly exhausting. And in the long term, this pandemic will have a huge impact on world economy. It has almost wiped out the tourism sector in the world. Restoring tourism industry in next one year is herculean trust. Even if the pandemic is over in next few months, still the people in the world will hesitate travelling globally out of fear.
Many countries in the world solely surviving on tourism industry or have tourism as the major economy will face long term impact of the pandemic. Hundreds of companies which were unable to bear the shock of pandemic have closed down their operations and has resulted into huge unemployment.
Millions of people worldwide will be suffering as there will be dearth of employment opportunities for some time. The situation will overall create a chaos and confusion in the world until it recovers fully.
In such situations, it is the responsibility of developed countries to build the multi pronged strategy not only to combat with Covid-19, however, to restore the world order politically and economically.
