The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir filed a chargesheet in a land-fraud case allegedly involving a businessman and two retired officers of revenue department , officials said on Thursday.
The chargesheet was produced in 2022 FIR which was registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B Ranbir Penal Code read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The EoW said the chargesheet was filed in Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar against Habibullah Bhat, a businessman from Omarhair Buchpora; Mohammad Rajab Reshi, retired Naib Tehsildar from Brein Nishat; and Syed Khurshid Ahmad, then Patwari, from Watalbagh Lar, Ganderbal.
The case originated from a written complaint alleging that a fraudulent mutation of land measuring 10 marlas, at Zoonimar Eidgah, Srinagar, had been executed in favour of the accused beneficiary on the pretext of a sale deed.
Accordingly a probe was ordered and during Investigation, it was revealed that no such sale deed had ever been registered by the concerned Sub-Registrar, EoW said.
Investigation established that accused Habibullah, in criminal conspiracy with the then Patwari Khurshid and Naib Tehsildar Reshi, manipulated revenue records and fraudulently recorded mutation entries on the basis of a non-existent sale deed.
EoW said their involvement in the commission of offences was prima facie substantiated, and the chargesheet was accordingly submitted for judicial determination.
