Farmers Protest Over Canal Water In Sopore

Scores of farmers in north Kashmir’s Zaingeer belt on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the inadequate water supply in canals.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service(KINS), said scores of Farmers on Wednesday blocked Sopore-Bandipora highway at Hathlangoo to register their protest against the government. as well as local authorities of the Jal Shakti department.

The protesting farmers while raising slogans against the Irrigation department said the standing crop of the farmers was being destroyed due to lack of water for irrigation in Zaingeer belt, especially in Hathlangoo village. They said the lack of water in canals has badly affected their agriculture process. The farmers appealed authorities at the Jal Shakti department for early redressal so that they will get a sigh of relief.

The protest was ended on the peaceful note after a team of police reached the spot and assured farmers that matter will be taken to higher authorities of the Jak Sakti department for the redressal at earliest.

Meanwhile Junior Assistant at Jal Shakti department Mohsin Ahmad told KINS over the phone that the department has taken cognizance of this issue and within 24 hours issue will be redressed. (KINS)
