For Getting Minority Status, Sikhs Protest in Baramulla

Srinagar: Sikhs today held a massive protest at Baramulla in favors of their long pending demands which include minority status to Sikhs of J&K and implementation of Punjabi language in the state.

All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina  in a statement to KNS SAID that the protesting Sikhs raised slogans in favors of early implementation of their demands. The protestors was unanimously decided that more intensified protest will be held in all parts of states if present state government played delay tactic as done before.

Raina said: “Now Sikhs of J&K will not tolerate injustice to our Sikh community in term of jobs, minority status, vacant posts in Punjabi language etc, if state and central government did not take early initiative to resolve it, then this protest will be intensified at all levels.”

District President GPC Baramulla Dr. Tara Singh while speaking on the occasion said that taking advantage of Article 370 and special statues granted to the state, no benefitted is provided to Sikh minorities as granted by the government of India, although PDP has agreed it in its manifesto that after the formation of their government they will soon resolve their genuine demands of minority status.

President Shrimoni Khalsa Dal Kashmir Er. Nirmal singh said there is no representation of our community in legislature, council and local bodies and that is worrisome for the Sikh Community.

Protest was also supported by people from majority community who were also present in protest.

Besides, others who supported the protest included Dr Harbans Singh, Dilawar singh, Nirmal singh, S. Dheeraj singh, Karan Singh Azad, and others. (KNS)
