The former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti demanded an inquiry into the Lethpora suicide attack in which more than forty Paramilitary CRPF men were killed.
A local militant Adil Ahmad Dar blew his car loaded with over 200 Kilogram RDX after storming into the CRPF convoy on Srinagar-Jammu highway. The attack triggered the major outrage across the country and forced hundreds of Kashmiris to return home due to mob attacks in India.
India held the air strike across the borders on February 25 to avenge the deadly attack on its paramilitary forces.
Speaking to media in South Kashmir Mehbooba said that many top leaders in country like Mamta Banerjee and Mayatai have cast the doubt over Lethpora, Pulwama attack. So I suggest there shall be an independent inquiry over it,” she told media.
On 25 February, as many as 12 Indian Air force war planes crossed the Line of Control in Uri sector and launched the surgical strike in Balakote area of Pakistan claiming to have dismantled terrorists training infrastructure run by top Jaish leader Masood Azhar. However, the Pakistan had refuted the claims and said that the IAF plane dropped the payload in a desolated area after facing Pakistan Air Force’s prompt response.
Mehbooba has also termed the Air strike as “drama” and said that Modi might plan the same type of action again to woo the voters back home.
The surgical strike triggered a wide debate within the political circles in view of ongoing general elections and many opposition parties have accused BJP of making “false propaganda” and demanded independent inquiry.
The opposition leaders also sought an inquiry into the Lethpora attack.
The BJP, however, accuses opposition parties of demoralizing the Indian army and said that those who doubt the Balakote strike conducted by the India Air Force soldiers doubt their own army men.
Pertinently, the ties between PDP and BJP have been severed after later pulled out of coalition in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba was the chief Minister of PDP-BJP alliance.
