A commanding batting display led by Shubman Gill, and powered by explosive contributions from Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar, took Gujarat Titans to a formidable 210 for four against Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Wednesday.
Gill produced a captain’s innings of control and authority, scoring 70 off 45 balls. Walking in early after the first wicket, he paced his knock intelligently, initially playing second fiddle before taking charge through the middle overs.
He was particularly severe on the spinners, striking multiple sixes off Kuldeep Yadav, and brought up his fifty with a composed boundary. His innings finally ended in the 18th over when Lungi Ngidi deceived him with a slower delivery, inducing a mistimed shot that was safely taken by Nitish Rana.
Buttler provided the early fireworks with a blistering 52 off 27 balls, setting the tone in the powerplay. He attacked from the outset, smashing Mukesh Kumar for multiple sixes and taking on Axar Patel with confidence. His aggressive knock was cut short when Kuldeep Yadav foxed him with a change of pace, bowling him with a delivery that skidded through after he missed a pull shot.
Washington Sundar then carried the momentum forward with a well-crafted 55 off 32 balls, playing a crucial role in the latter stages. He targeted both pace and spin, particularly capitalising on loose deliveries to find boundaries regularly.
Sundar brought up his maiden IPL half-century with a six and followed it with a boundary to push Gujarat past the 200-run mark. He was eventually dismissed in the final over by Mukesh Kumar, who forced a mistimed lofted shot that was caught at mid-off.
Earlier, Mukesh Kumar had struck the first blow by dismissing Sai Sudharsan, who chopped one onto his stumps. He finished as the most successful bowler for Delhi with two wickets, though he was expensive.
Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a wicket each, accounting for Gill and Buttler respectively, while the rest of the attack struggled to contain Gujarat’s scoring rate.
Late in the innings, Glenn Phillips added the finishing touches with a quick cameo, including a six and a boundary in the final over, ensuring Gujarat Titans crossed the 200-run mark with ease.
In reply, Delhi Capitals were set a stiff target of 211 runs.
