Hezbollah official warns Lebanese government may collapse amid public pressure

The Lebanese government’s stance against Hezbollah could lead to internal divisions and plunge the country into chaos, while pressure from masses supporting the group in its fight against Israel could even bring about a change in government, Mahmoud Komati, deputy head of Hezbollah’s political council, told Sputnik.

“Today, we are experiencing spontaneous protests that express public opinion. Yes, we expect everything.

We expect the government, with its policies and its positions, to drive itself into a serious impasse, which will lead to its fall through popular and peaceful means,” Komati said.

When asked about whether the mood on the streets could lead to more widespread protests aimed at changing the government in Lebanon, the politician noted that “all options are possible.”

According to the spokesman, the problem is that the government doesn’t respect Hezbollah’s policies and those of the resistance, which for 15 months demonstrated patience and endured aggression so that the state would fulfill its obligations and lead Lebanon to liberation from the Israeli presence.

“It didn’t appreciate the resistance’s patience, and instead of cooperating with it in this direction, it resorted to decisions against it. It is trying to disarm, restrict, and stifle it. This is precisely what is leading to spontaneous protests today. If we have reached this level of intensity and anger among the masses against the decisions of the state and the authorities, then what will happen if organised rallies begin” Komati added.
