INDIA Bloc VP candidate, Sudershan Reddy to file nomination today

INDIA Bloc Vice Presidential candidate B Sudershan Reddy will file his nomination today at 11:30 am.

Before filing of the nomination, all floor leaders of INDIA Bloc will assemble at Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge’s office in Parliament House complex, a Congress statement said.

The leaders will then proceed for the filing of the nomination.

Notably, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan, yesterday filed his nomination for the Vice Presidential election in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Vice Presidential election will take place on September 9. The Electoral College consists of all Members of Parliament from both Houses of Parliament totalling 782, excluding six vacancies. A candidate needs at least 392 votes to win.

Justice Reddy (retd) was born in Telangana and after obtaining his law degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad in 1971, he was enrolled as an advocate with the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council. He primarily handled writ and civil cases at the Andhra Pradesh High Court.


Before his elevation to the bench, Justice Reddy worked as a government pleader from 1988 to 1990. He briefly served as Additional Standing Counsel for the central government in 1990 and also held the position of legal adviser and standing counsel for Osmania University.


In 1995, he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. His legal expertise led to his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2005. Two years later, in 2007, he ascended to the Supreme Court of India, where he served until his retirement in 2011.

Following his retirement, Justice Reddy became the first Lokayukta of Goa in March 2013. However, he resigned in September of the same year, citing personal reasons.
